Actionable Tips for Identifying Cyber Risk Featured at the Small Business Cybersecurity Xchange Summit
May 1, 2017 (Silver Spring, MD) – CyberRx and Wapack Labs co-presented the American Small Business Cybersecurity Xchange Spring Summit on April 19, 2017. Government contractors and small and medium-sized business (SMB) owners learned tactics to identify cyber risks and implement the Cybersecurity Framework developed by the National Institute of Standard and Technology (NIST) and the public sector. Foley and Lardner LLP hosted the event at their Georgetown office in Washington, DC.
“Our goal was to provide programing to drive education of the ever-evolving and complicated cyber landscape,” said CyberRx CEO, Ola Sage. “As the owner of a small business, it’s important for me to lead the conversation about the latest trends and offer actionable tips for our community to become knowledgeable and proactive against cyber threats.”
Two cyber experts with extensive experience in the Defense and Intelligence Communities discussed the current cyber landscape – Wapack Labs CEO, Jeff Stutzman, formerly director at the DoD Cyber Crime Center (DC3), and John Sipher, who spent nearly 30 years in the CIA’s clandestine service. Each discussed varying perspectives of how “bad actors” in the cyber world obtain information about their victims prior to attacking. Understanding the hackers’ hands-on tactics was helpful for the business owners who wanted to understand why and how their companies are vulnerable. Audience participation during and after the presentations was extensive.
Michael J. Lockerby, Partner at Foley & Lardner LLC, delivered opening remarks and addressed the multifaceted complications in the socially transparent world we live in. Lockerby has litigated issues in computers and high technology products.
“At our summit, CEOs and CXOs learned how they can identify and prioritize their companies’ high risk areas using the NIST Cybersecurity Framework, and how to create and implement a strong and cost effective cybersecurity action plan to strengthen their cybersecurity posture,“ said Sage.
